Synopsis: “If you choose the right story, you get a deep insight into how the world works,” said the doyen Ken Loach, who never gives up the practice of politically conscious and socially intervening cinema, focused on the fragile experience of the working class. He chose the story of T.J. Ballantyne, who struggles to keep his pub open, the “Old Oak”, the last place to socialise in a deprived mining community in the north of England. The arrival of a group of Syrian refugees ignites racial tensions, but T.J.’s unexpected friendship with young Yara sparks hope for a more united and radiant future.
