Teatro da Rainha
The play “In bed with Ofélia”, written by Henrique Manuel Bento Fialho, following a request of the Teatro da Rainha, departs from the “Love Letters from Fernando Pessoa and Ofélia Queiroz” to arrive at an Ofélia with her own identity, who is both Hamlet’s and Pessoa’s, but also Elizabeth Siddal who landed, with dramatic consequences, for Sir John Everett Millais during the execution of the well-known painting that recreates Hamlet’s Ophelia.
Unrolled in three acts that shape three aspects of Ophelia’s personality, the text also puts three creatures of uncertain nature on the stage. Between them, who fit in with Fernando Pessoa’s three main heteronyms, and Ofélia on stage, a movement of an illusory kind is instituted, as, in fact, was to a large extent the love relationship between Fernando Pessoa and Ofélia Queiroz.
Whether for the lyricism patent in the text, or for the philosophical dimension underlying the type of relationship constructed throughout the play, this is a performance for a general audience that may have a strong impact on the student population who, at the secondary school level, approach the work of Fernando Pessoa in the 12th grade and explore the dimensions of human action and values in the 10th grade in the discipline of Philosophy.
Performed as part of the Commemorations of the 250th Anniversary of the Elevation of Figueira da Foz to Town.
